The number of cosmetic fillers available in the U.S. is rapidly increasing. Ribose–cross-linked porcine collagen (Evolence) is awaiting FDA approval following study results showing its safety and efficacy to be equivalent (noninferior) to Restylane 6 months after injection (Plast Reconstr Surg 2007; 120:303). The original study, funded by the maker of Evolence, has been extended for another 6 months.
Evolence was injected into one side and Restylane into the other, to optimal correction, in 149 subjects with moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds. One touch-up was allowed at 2 weeks.
