Review of melanomas by a multidisciplinary tumor board resulted in revisions of diagnoses in many patients.

Stage I melanomas make up almost 80% of all newly diagnosed cutaneous melanomas reported to the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results cancer registry. Academically oriented practices frequently submit samples for official pathology review by a multidisciplinary tumor board. Investigators at the Moffitt Cancer Center assessed the potential value of such organized review in the diagnosis and management of melanoma.
