Residents are performing more hands-on procedures than in the recent past, and about half were very satisfied with their experience.
Dermatology residents receive training in a variety of procedures during residency. Investigators surveyed third-year dermatology residents to find out how satisfied they were with their training.
In all, 55% of the 240 respondents were very satisfied with their residency training in procedural dermatology. Overall, residents reported that they felt most competent in excisional surgery and some cosmetic procedures, including botulinum toxin injections and laser surgery. However, most had performed fewer than 10 each of these procedures as the primary surgeon.
