The usual study period for initial approval of new psoriasis drugs is 12 to 16 weeks, although the FDA generally requests longer studies of safety. Study populations are relatively small subsets of patients, and it is possible that adverse reactions that will affect 1 of 10,000 patients will not occur in the given time frame.
