Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a relatively unusual, low-grade sarcoma with a tendency to recurrence and a mortality rate of up to 6.5%. A number of DFSPs have rearrangements on chromosomes 17 and 22 that deregulate platelet-derived growth factor (beta) chain gene expression and activate the PDGF receptor beta protein tyrosine kinase. These authors reviewed approximately 3 decades of DFSP experience at one institution for clinicopathologic features that predict recurrence.
