Reticular telangiectatic erythema sometimes develops over implantable devices, such as pacemakers, defibrillators, morphine pumps, and spinal cord stimulators. The cause has been unknown. Now, these authors report the case of a 72-year-old man who developed progressive telangiectatic erythema on his abdomen 10 days after replacement of a spinal cord stimulator pulse generator and connector block.
The area measured 30 × 15 cm and was warm and reddish. The clinical photos show telangiectases radiating outward from the red patch, consistent with the diagnosis of reticular telangiectatic erythema. Histology of a punch biopsy specimen showed a sparse infiltration of eosinophils and lymphocytes in the upper and mid dermis.
