Interval colonoscopy often is recommended for patients with chronic Crohn's colitis as a survey for colorectal cancer, but few data are available about its use. Clinicians from a private tertiary referral center for inflammatory bowel disease report their experience with 259 Crohn's colitis patients who had been screened and surveyed by periodic colonoscopy and biopsy since 1980.
Eligible patients had had Crohn's colitis for 8 years or longer with at least one third of the colon involved. Those with only cecitis or perirectal disease were excluded.
