Novel Protease Inhibitor (VX-950) for HCV Infection

Many patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection are not eligible for interferon plus ribavirin because of adverse effects, and the response rates among those who do receive this treatment are quite low (about 50%). Research is underway to develop novel agents that could be more effective and tolerable. In this double-blind, industry-sponsored, phase 1b trial, investigators report on the safety, tolerability, and antiviral activity of VX-950, a peptidomimetic inhibitor of the protease NS3/4A.
