Until recently, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) was a rare clinical entity, detailed only in case reports and small case series and particularly in pediatric literature. However, the rising number of reports about this disease, in both adult and pediatric populations, suggests either that the incidence truly is increasing or that the disease simply is being recognized and diagnosed more often.
In this prospective population-based study, researchers surveyed a random sample of 2860 adults in Sweden using validated postal questionnaires about gastrointestinal symptoms.
