Esophagectomy was once the favored therapy for Barrett esophagus with high-grade dysplasia (HGD), but guidelines from the American College of Gastroenterology now indicate that close surveillance and endoscopic ablation therapies are also suitable options (JW Gastroenterol Apr 18 2008).
