Infliximab is effective in the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Randomized controlled trials have demonstrated infliximab’s excellent short-term safety profile, but longer-term data are limited. Now, investigators have evaluated safety data for 3775 patient-years of infliximab therapy for IBD.
This retrospective cohort study involved 743 IBD patients who received infliximab at a single hospital in Belgium; 666 IBD patients treated with immunosuppressants but who had not received infliximab or any other biological therapy served as controls.
