Factors associated with metabolic syndrome, such as obesity, diabetes, and insulin resistance might predispose patients to develop hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To better understand the physiopathology of HCC associated with metabolic syndrome, investigators compared the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with HCC arising from metabolic syndrome with those of patients with HCC caused by chronic liver diseases, such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
