Spraying dilute hydrogen peroxide onto blood or clots that obscure gastroduodenal bleeding sites has been shown to improve visualization of underlying lesions during endoscopy by hydrolyzing hemoglobin and rendering it translucent (Gastrointest Endosc 1999; 49:518). To further assess the use of hydrogen peroxide for this purpose, investigators conducted a single-center prospective study involving 81 patients with acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding who had adherent clots on the ulcer base.
