Fundic gland polyps (FGPs) are benign polyps usually found incidentally during endoscopy in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) syndrome. Although FGPs in patients with FAP syndrome can progress to dysplasia and cancer, the sporadic polyps found in the general population rarely progress and are generally considered to have no clinical significance. Since the advent of proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) that profoundly suppress secretion of gastric acid, researchers have suggested that long-term PPI use might increase the incidence of FGPs.
