A recent case-control study from Canada found that colonoscopy provided good overall protection against colorectal cancer, but protection was confined to the left colon (Gastroenterol Feb 20 2009). To further assess whether such protection is indeed site specific, investigators conducted a cross-sectional study that examined prevalence of advanced neoplasms at various colorectal sites in 3287 individuals (age, 55 or older) who underwent screening colonoscopy in a single state in Germany.
