Recommendations for the first-line treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection include either triple therapy (proton-pump inhibitor [PPI], clarithromycin, and amoxicillin) or quadruple therapy (PPI, bismuth, metronidazole, and tetracycline). In this study, investigators performed a meta-analysis to compare the efficacy and tolerability of these two regimens.
An extensive literature search identified 212 randomized, controlled trials performed after 1990 that compared the two regimens for similar durations of therapy and included documentation of infection eradication.
