Electronic chromoendoscopy, which is now available on all commercial colonoscopes, has been proposed for two principal uses in the colon: lesion detection and histologic real-time diagnosis of detected lesions. The Olympus system uses narrow-band imaging (NBI), or blue-light illumination; Pentax and Fujinon use image postprocessing technology. Now, at six private practices in Germany, investigators tested how well the Fujinon Intelligent Chromo Endoscopy (FICE) system detected adenomas. The eight examiners involved in the study had extensive previous experience.
