Approximately one in five patients hospitalized for acute pancreatitis (AP) requires unplanned readmission within 30 days of discharge (Am J Gastroenterol 2010; 105:2492). Now, investigators have conducted a retrospective cohort study aimed at developing a clinical scoring system to predict such early readmission among patients previously hospitalized with AP.
The researchers evaluated 25 patient characteristics, readily available at hospital discharge, and measured their potential value in predicting early readmission in a derivation cohort of 248 patients.
