The sensitivity of computed tomographic colonography (CTC) for detecting colorectal polyps is considered comparable to conventional colonoscopy for polyps ≥10 mm but inferior for polyps <10 mm. Operator factors influence the accuracy of both procedures.
To investigate the role of radiologists' performance on CTC accuracy, researchers in France conducted a multicenter trial involving 845 patients seen by 28 radiologists across 26 centers. Complete data on CTC, as well as subsequent colonoscopy with segmental unblinding, were available for 737 patients, most of whom were not undergoing screening (50 with positive fecal occult blood tests and 431 with a family history of colorectal cancer or personal history of colorectal cancer or adenomas).
