An international working group recently published guidelines for the treatment of nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (Ann Intern Med 2010; 152:101). To acknowledge regional differences in resources and patient characteristics, another working group representing 12 countries convened an industry-sponsored conference in March 2010 to develop guidelines specific to the Asia-Pacific region. The group used a modified Delphi process for consensus based on extensive reviews of the literature and rooted their conclusions in studies of Asian populations as much as possible.
Several recommendations from the Asia-Pacific group were similar to those in the prior international consensus document.
