Researchers continue to explore ways to improve the detection of polyps during colonoscopy and to allow for real-time differentiation between adenomatous and hyperplastic polyps. Two new studies add to the evidence base.
In a multicenter, randomized trial, Rastogi and colleagues compared standard-definition white-light colonoscopy, high-definition white-light colonoscopy, and narrow-band imaging (NBI) in 640 adults who had been referred for screening or surveillance colonoscopy. No difference was found across the groups in terms of the proportion of patients with adenomas.
