The most recent postpolypectomy surveillance guidelines from the U.S. Multisociety Task Force on Colorectal Cancer and the American Cancer Society recommend that patients with one to two small tubular adenomas undergo a repeat colonoscopy in 5 to 10 years (Gastroenterology 2006; 130:1872). In the U.S., the majority of this population undergoes follow-up colonoscopy in ≤5 years.
To estimate 5-year cumulative incidence of adenoma after baseline screening colonoscopy, investigators prospectively enrolled 3803 asymptomatic Koreans aged 50 to 69 in a surveillance colonoscopy study.
