Multiple scoring systems have been developed to estimate the risk for adverse outcomes in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB). The Rockall Score is perhaps the most widely used and can be calculated either prior to endoscopy (clinical Rockall Score; CRS) or with endoscopic findings (full Rockall Score; RS). The Glasgow Blatchford Score (GBS) does not include endoscopic findings and is typically used to determine the need for urgent endoscopy. Now, investigators have evaluated the accuracy of a modified GBS (mGBS) that uses only objective laboratory and hemodynamic parameters to predict UGIB outcomes.
