Data on the effectiveness of perinatal strategies to prevent mother-to-infant transmission of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) are sparse and inconsistent. Now, investigators have conducted a rigorous, systematic review of evidence on possible associations between mode of delivery, breast-feeding, or labor management strategies and risk for vertical transmission of HCV. The purpose of the study was to inform the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) in making recommendations on prenatal HCV screening.
