Improving adenoma detection rates (ADRs) during colonoscopy has proven difficult. The most successful program to date entailed physician education and use of a timer during colonoscopy to target a total withdrawal time of 8 minutes (2 minutes for each segment of the colon; JW Gastroenterol Nov 14 2008). Other efforts have proven largely unsuccessful.
Now, investigators have conducted a randomized controlled trial of an endoscopic quality-improvement program (EQUIP) involving 15 staff endoscopists at an ambulatory endoscopy center. The researchers documented ADRs for the endoscopists before the intervention and provided individual feedback on their ADRs and withdrawal.
