Definitions of serrated polyposis according to the World Health Organization include the following: the presence of ≥20 serrated polyps (hyperplastic polyp, sessile serrated adenomas/polyp [SSA/P], or traditional serrated adenoma) distributed throughout the colon; ≥5 serrated polyps proximal to the sigmoid colon of which 2 are ≥1 cm; or any serrated polyp proximal to the sigmoid in a first-degree relative with serrated polyposis. Patients with serrated polyposis have a high prevalence of colorectal cancer at initial diagnosis, and limited evidence suggests a high risk for cancer during follow-up.
