It is well known that colonoscopy misses some colorectal cancers. In the population without inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), predictors of missed cancer include proximal location, microsatellite instability, hypermethylation, performance of colonoscopy by nongastroenterologists, and performance of colonoscopy for high-prevalence indications such as positive fecal occult blood tests. The current study sought to estimate and compare rates of missed colorectal cancer in populations with and without IBD.
