The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection varies with the degree of socioeconomic development of a country. Does this variability also exist for recurrence of H. pylori infection? To find out, investigators reviewed studies that documented rates of recurrence after eradication in different countries.
Researchers identified 77 studies with at least 76 patient-years of follow-up. Recurrent infection was documented in 1226 cases during 43,525 patient-years of follow-up for an average annual recurrence rate of 2.82% ±1.16% per patient-year.
