The authors of this systematic review aimed to assess the influences of MRI perfusion-diffusion mismatch and thrombolysis on clinical outcomes and infarct growth. They evaluated prospective studies published before May 2005 that examined the relation between diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI) mismatch at baseline and clinical and radiologic outcomes after at least 1 month of follow-up.
Only 11 articles fulfilled the review’s inclusion criteria, and only 3 of these articles provided data on thrombolysis. The primary reasons for exclusion included retrospective design, inadequate PWI details, and small study size (<20 patients).
