Neuroblastoma is the most common solid malignancy of childhood and is among the most significant clinically, accounting for 15% of cancer-related deaths in children. The biologic behavior of neuroblastoma tumors is highly variable. Low-risk forms exist, particularly in infants; these low-risk tumors have no chromosomal abnormalities, cure rates exceeding 90% with treatment, and, in some cases, spontaneous regression. High-risk forms tend to metastasize, are resistant to therapy, and have cure rates below 40%.
