Tolosa-Hunt syndrome (THS) is a rare disorder of recurring periorbital or hemicranial pain and associated diplopia, with granulomatous inflammation of unknown etiology. These authors questioned the clinical utility of the current diagnostic criteria for THS set out by the International Headache Society (ICHD-II). They tested the criteria by examining data from 62 patients reported in the literature, who were identified as having THS or the related conditions of orbital pseudotumor, idiopathic orbital inflammation, and painful ophthalmoplegia. The analysis focused on clinical features, duration of signs and symptoms relative to treatment dosage, and location of inflammation found on MRI.
