In this longitudinal study, investigators assessed the incidence and prevalence of various insomnias, of depression, and of comorbid insomnia and depression in young adults, and examined whether the presence of one affects risk for the other. The authors performed a stratified sampling to enrich the study with individuals at risk for psychiatric syndromes. From an initial cohort of 2201 men, enrolled at age 19, and 2346 women, enrolled at age 20, 591 subjects (292 men) were selected and completed up to six interviews during a 20-year period. Interviews covered symptoms related to all organ systems.
