These authors attempted to answer an important question: What effect does fatigue have on driving performance in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI)? They recruited 36 patients at least 6 months after severe TBI who were participating in a vocational-adjustment program and could drive. Of these, 22 patients and 22 age- and sex-matched controls completed a 1-hour driving test on a closed track. All participants underwent a standard polysomnography (PSG) study followed by a maintenance-of-wakefulness test (MWT) and completed a 7-point fatigue-severity scale (FSS) assessment.
