A long-standing controversy exists regarding the optimal medical treatment of ocular symptoms of myasthenia gravis (MG). These authors retrospectively compared the effectiveness of pyridostigmine alone with that of oral prednisone (alone or with pyridostigmine) in treating ocular symptoms in 35 patients. Most patients received both treatment options at different time points; each treatment epoch was considered individually. The authors obtained data on a subset of the Quantitative Myasthenia Gravis Scale (ocular QMG) related to ocular function during treatment epochs. The frequency of complete resolution of ocular symptoms was determined after 2 months of treatment and at final follow-up.
