In this retrospective study, investigators evaluated the efficacy and safety of intracranial placement of self-expandable stents in patients with acute ischemic stroke presenting within 6 hours after symptom onset. Among 77 patients treated endovascularly in one center during a 1-year period, 12 patients (median NIH Stroke Scale score, 14; mean age, 63) were treated with intracranial stents. Criteria for stent placement included failed intra-arterial thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy, contraindication to intravenous thrombolysis, or confirmed vessel occlusion.
