Camptocormia is an abnormal truncal flexion associated with Parkinson disease (PD) and other disorders. This abnormal movement is present when the patient is upright and relents when the patient is supine. These researchers investigated the prevalence of camptocormia among 275 consecutive patients with PD seen at a single PD clinic. Patients underwent clinical examination and formal goniometry for camptocormia, defined as anterior flexion of at least 45 degrees.
Overall, 6.9% of the patients had camptocormia. Compared with the 256 patients without camptocormia, the 19 with camptocormia had more severe PD, as defined by Hoehn-Yahr staging and the motor Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale. Presence of camptocormia was associated with older …
