2009 was another banner year for neurology, as advances in the neurosciences provided new insights into the causes and treatment of many important neurological diseases. In addition, the burgeoning field of clinical trials continues to increase our evidence base for treating disorders more effectively and in a more cost-effective manner. As always, in addition to its practical import, much of the neurological literature has helped us to understand the brain, a major reason many of us were attracted to the field, even in the bad old days when “neurological therapeutics” was an oxymoron.
