Symptoms of Parkinson disease (PD), like those of many movement disorders, are not limited to disordered movement; mood and cognition may be affected as well. To examine factors that might predict depression in patients with PD, researchers tracked 685 of a single practitioner's PD patients for a mean of 10.3 years in an outpatient setting. Patients underwent evaluation for a mood disorder at the first visit and on a near-yearly basis. The researchers systematically collected data regarding original onset of PD symptoms, medications, assorted demographics, family history of neurological disease, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
