Depression is one of the four dreaded potential “D” complications after stroke, along with disability, dementia, and death. However, the risk for depression after transient ischemic attack (TIA), a temporarily symptomatic manifestation of cerebral ischemia, has not been well established. Cross-sectional data have suggested a high prevalence of depression in TIA patients, but prospective data have been lacking.
