Fingolimod, the first FDA-approved oral immunomodulatory medication for multiple sclerosis (MS), has been associated with macular edema in clinical trials. This review article summarizes data on the diagnosis and incidence of fingolimod-associated macular edema (FAME) and describes the authors' approach to management of this entity.
Fluid accumulation in the central retina, or macula, is termed macular edema (ME). Because the macula is responsible for central vision, alterations of this region can greatly affect vision.
