The prognosis for upper-limb functional outcome after stroke has important implications for setting realistic rehabilitation goals, management of rehabilitation resources, and design of clinical trials. The aim of this observational study was to refine an algorithm for predicting motor outcome of the upper limb after acute stroke. The primary endpoint was functional ability of the arm, as measured by the valid and reliable Action Research Arm Test score at 12 weeks.
