Ginkgo biloba is used by many people to attempt to prevent Alzheimer disease (AD), despite a lack of rigorous research regarding its use. To provide such evidence, researchers conducted a manufacturer-funded trial of standardized ginkgo biloba in more than 2800 older adults presenting with memory concerns and demonstrating normal or mildly reduced cognition (Mini-Mental State Examination scores >25). Participants were randomized to consume standardized ginkgo biloba extract or placebo for 5 years.
