Cross-sectional studies of patients with vestibular migraine have delineated a variety of clinical features, but the evolution of the condition has been unknown. To study this evolution, researchers obtained follow-up clinical and diagnostic studies on 61 patients with definite migrainous vertigo. Over a median follow-up of 9 years, the authors noted that 87% of the patients were still experiencing vertigo spells. However, 56% of patients reported a reduction in the frequency of their vertigo attacks, although 21% of those with persisting attacks reported that they were severe. The variability in duration of vertigo attacks and the frequency of migraine symptoms during vertigo attacks increased.
