For many, heavy drinking in college (see Journal Watch Psychiatry Dec 18 2006) predicts problem drinking in adulthood. These investigators studied the efficacy of a simple intervention to reduce high-risk drinking in a national college fraternity.
The single-session, 3-hour group program, Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) for the University, was conducted at fraternity houses and consisted of a manual, video vignettes, and behavioral rehearsal on how to recognize alcohol problems and intervene with peers.
