Marijuana intoxication causes transient psychotic and affective symptoms, and many studies have further linked cannabis use to later psychotic symptoms (e.g., Journal Watch Psychiatry Jan 27 2005). Researchers examined the strength of this evidence in two longitudinal studies — a systematic review and a prospective study.
Moore et al. examined population-based longitudinal studies of psychotic or affective outcomes (disorders and symptoms). Eleven studies concerned psychosis outcomes in 7 cohorts, and 24 concerned depression outcomes in 15 cohorts.
