Having social relationships is associated with better health. In some research, negative aspects of close relationships, more commonly reported by women and those with lower socioeconomic status (SES), impaired mood, physical function, and, in one study (J Aging Health 2005; 17:85), cardiac health. These researchers examined incident coronary heart disease (CHD) events among 9011 British civil servants participating in the famed Whitehall II study who completed questionnaires on negative aspects of their close relationships. Baseline sociodemographics and other cardiac risk factors (medical, health behavior, and psychiatric) were also analyzed.
