Mental health clinicians have become concerned about metabolic changes and weight gain associated with several psychotropic medications. In preclinical studies, researchers have found that obesity was related to the gut microbiome. The current research group examined gut microbiota in women through fecal sampling.
Study participants were 108 twins enrolled in a twin study in Missouri (31 monozygotic twin pairs and 23 dizygotic twin pairs; age range, 21–32; of either European or African ancestry) and 46 of their mothers.
