Drinking is common in college students, and students who drink heavily are more likely to miss class and get bad grades. Some researchers have linked poor sleep habits with poor academic performance. In the current study, 236 students randomly drawn from all four academic class-years of a northeastern college underwent structured interviews about the frequency of alcohol use; the amount consumed; sleep duration and schedule; and daytime sleepiness. Grade-point averages and SAT scores were also reviewed for the 95% of subjects who gave permission.
