Recent analyses have highlighted the selective reporting of outcomes in clinical trials, especially those funded by industry. To identify potential bias in published research, investigators used internal company research reports and study protocols (made public because of litigation) to identify prespecified primary outcomes for 21 manufacturer-funded clinical trials examining the efficacy of gabapentin for off-label use (migraine, 3 studies; bipolar disorder, 3; neuropathic pain, 9; nociceptive pain, 6). The investigators then compared the prespecified outcomes with the primary outcomes presented in 12 published reports.
