Much more has been published about the adult sequelae of ADHD in boys than in girls. These investigators analyzed longitudinal data on 96 girls meeting DSM-III-R criteria for ADHD and 91 girls without ADHD (initial age range, 6–17).
At follow-up (mean, 11 years), 86% of ADHD patients and 99% of controls were over age 18. Of the ADHD patients, 93% had received treatment in their lifetime, 42% received treatment in the prior year, and 62% met criteria for current (prior-month) full or subthreshold ADHD.
